Spring cleaning isn’t just for the home; your workplace culture can benefit greatly from a spring reset. Maintaining a strong, positive workplace culture helps to keep employees engaged and motivated, which in turn increases productivity. We’ve put together a list of ways organizations can “spring clean” their workplace culture:
1. Refresh Policies
The end of the first quarter is a great time to review and update your organization’s policies to ensure they align with your goals and the needs of your employees. A great way to begin this process is to survey employees and gather feedback about your organization’s policies– including which policies are working and which policies may need improvement.
While all organizations may differ in the policies and procedures they have in place, most organizations should consider the following policies for a spring update:
Remote and Hybrid Work Policies
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policies
PTO and Wellness Policies
Performance Review Procedures
Once your organization has reviewed employee feedback, policy and procedure updates should be made in the areas that indicate improvement.
2. Re-Energize Engagement Efforts
Over time, employee engagement can begin to decrease. In order to reignite motivation and increase employee involvement, it may be helpful for your organization to give a spring refresh to your employee engagement strategies. This may include activities such as:
Hosting a teambuilding retreat or team gathering
Implementing an Employee Recognition program
Providing opportunities for learning and development
A great way to stay on top of employee engagement even after a spring refresh is to implement regularly-scheduled engagement activities. We recommend one activity per quarter– this helps to maintain engagement without overwhelming busy teams.
3. Improve Employee Morale
If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times: Happy employees are productive employees. What keeps your employees feeling happy and motivated? If you haven’t asked your employees directly, then you should. Their input is crucial to ensuring that your organization’s culture is one of happiness and productivity.
Implementing changes to boost employee morale doesn’t have to be big and expensive; there are plenty of small ways organizations can make a big impact on workplace morale:
Keep spaces organized and free from clutter (this includes digital spaces as well!)
Support healthy boundaries by encouraging work-life balance
Boost spirits by offering small perks, such as lunch on the organization or some comp time
If you’re not sure where to start with boosting the morale of your organization’s employees, a stay interview is a quick and simple way to gather actionable feedback. Spring cleaning your workplace culture is all about creating an environment where employees feel valued, engaged, and motivated. By taking time to refresh policies, re-energize engagement strategies, and improve morale, you’ll set the stage for a more productive and happy workforce.
